Take Back the Blog

Pretty damn appropriate that today is Take Back the Blog Day, with all of the crap going down in various places of the blogosphere. I'm certain that little, if anything, I say will mean much, so I've decided to keep it minimal and manifesto-style.

The threats, the hate, the abuse directed towards female bloggers (see see see see see) all involve one end. Female silence. There's other misogynist undercurrents, of course, but in the end, that isn't as important as getting women to not speak up.

Blogs are beautiful things. They're soapboxes, they're loudspeakers, they're PLACES TO SPEAK UP. And when women decide to take the power that blogs give people to get their stories and their voices out to the public, hateful abusers, who want nothing less than silence from every women that does not say What She Should Be Saying™, will stop at nothing to silence those women.

So yes, take back the blog. No one should rest in the fight against these people who would silence women's voices. There's no excuse for fence-sitting here. As Amber so eloquently says, speaking up is a feminist virtue. It's also a human virtue, and a right. Let us come together, all of us, and denounce the hate, denounce the violent threats and misogynist language, denounce the silencing of women that repeatedly plays itself out in the blogosphere. And we all need to keep talking. Solidarity will win the day, we just have to stay firm and steadfast.

We all say NO.

***UPDATE***

I can't believe I forgot this, but Faith at Feminist Nation (a blog I recommend to everyone) had a post up about a Recovery Bill of Rights for Rape and Sexual Abuse Survivors. I had meant to say that I think a listing of the rights of bloggers should be at least discussed, even though it seems misogynist asshats like Kos and others don't seem to want to get behind a Code of Ethics. And when you have MRA stalkers and real hateful, vindictive people out there, being a feminist blogger is harder than ever. Just something I wanted to put out there. A Blogger Bill of Rights should be something we're all thinking about.

Men have a right to a voice as well
I stopped reading news papers years ago because of one sided feminist sexism. Years later i bought my first computer and until then i had never heard men speaking out against female chauvinism. I believe that men should have equality and equal treatment where women speak of equality but expect better treatment and favouritism. Men have a right to insult women as much as women like to insult us. If women stop us defending ourselves against feminist hate it will prove that feminists are nazis after all and it will be proof that we live in, a matriarchal society. I have a right to go through life without constantly being insulted and discriminated against by women. To Date i have reported one of the female staff (social service groups) for sexist remarks against men.(reported twice) i have also had to deal with a couple of female neihbours and i hit another woman for constantly insulting me. Any attempt to stop me defending myself will only result in further counter measures and i will make at least one feminist pig suffer.Female chauvinism and failure to recognize that men are treated as dispensable have resulted in men having their own rights groups and blogs. You bully us and we will hit back, and there is nothing wrong with that.

Okay David, you've made you ludicrous and unsubstantiated point. No more will be tolerated. Nothing you have said is backed up by any sort of evidence that normal scientist will agree are worth your propositions. Go away. :-)

i find it amusing that when people find out that i am a multiple tour combat veteran with a generous gun collection, several big dogs and a nice secluded place in the country behind a cactus fence the glee with which they harrassed the women simply dissipates. i have offered to give my address to several trolls. i even offered to allow one of them to use my .32cal flintlocks (mahogany with ivory and brass appointments, elegant things) for a month to practice, and further would have allowed them to pick whether or not i shot right or left handed. . .(which wouldn't make the slightest difference in my accuracy but it sounds so fucking cool) i invite the little fucking pissant fops like david who whine and whine about how put upon they are to come out to the desert for a little visit and there are never any takers. you want to defend yourself you little pipsqueak piece of shit? come face a man who has not the slightest bit of hesitation when it comes to doing damage to the likes of you.
